One of the readers described the meeting for us last night over on the comments section, but since the blog is getting so many posts, I have moved it to the front of the log since it contains some instructive information. The Whig wrote that the SPCA had intended to to be at the meeting, but decided not to because of threats of physical harm so they asked supporters not to place themselves at risk. Our reader thanks Dr. McDermott for showing up.

Post in Comments Section Describing the Meeting Last Night
I attended the public meeting last night and I was impressed. I saw an open public meeting being conducted by the Commissioners, democaracy in action. I saw a large crowd of concerend citizens. I saw people voicing their opinions on a very emotional issue with a great deal of decorum. I saw lots of folks, but I didn’t see Nancy Schwerzler or Jeanne Demming. Dr. McDermott was in attendence and he should be complimented for having the guts to show up at the meeting. It’s a shame that the executive management from CCSPCA disn’t show up to explain to the public how the $640,000 of public money is being spent.

I was there covering the meeting for another blog, Someone Noticed, and posted about the meeting live. I am fully aware of what you post above references since I was sitting in the row behind the Vet. Avter the meeting broke a conversation started between the Dr. and a small crowd of people with signs in their hands. I didn’t see who initiatied the discussion, but I can tell you it was a respectful dialogue and conversation on both sides. I think one of the television stations got it on tape. There were so many video and audio recorders going there, it was hard to keep track of that.
Yes it meant a lot to see Dr McDermot there. That was brave of him. Where was everyone else . Tail between their legs I bet! (ha ha) either way I respect that I was watching him while I spoke and when he was listening to the story about tee tee, he was crying!.My mom and I both spoke with him last nite, and again said he said “there was more our staff could have done to save molly, my hands were tied and I’m sorry. If I may go out on a limb here with out getting jumped on by my friends – but somethings fishy there is more to all this – speak up Dr. McDermot!
one more thing- dr mcdermot said he had molly privately cremated,(not sure now if its her in that little blue velvet bag)but all I’ve got to say is hummm??
How is it that the treating veterinarian’s hands were tied? He is solely responsible for the treatment decisions for his patients. No one overrides his decisions.
I ain’t buyin’ it biotch
You ar right it does lie with the doctor! What I’m saying is there is more to all this , seems that way. And if anyone thinks for a second I’m not still pissed your wrong! I will hear my mollys screams and cries in my head forever! I’m never going to let this go. Ever! I just belive there is more going on.
I too was at the meeting and what I saw was a bunch of ELECTED officals with looks on their faces as to say…..WE DONT CARE. They were busy talking among each other and wanting to interupt tax paying citizens while they were talking. If you had to ask me the meeting was nice for the simple fact that other citizens got to hear what people thought, but in my mind most of the commissioners that we as voting citizens put in office…..could careless. When someone talks to me I listen..if I wanna hear what they have to say or not. So folks, keep this in mind on the next election.. I just hope the right people hear what is going on and do something..Dont hold your breath waiting for OUR commissioners to do so. We all need to keep doing what we are doing to get the word out. Word is spreading and spreading fast..it isnt going to happen over night so stay calm and just ride out the storm. Justice will be served on the people that have done wrong. To the members of the SPCA that say threats have been made…report them and get your own justice, if what you are saying is true…No threat, would keep me away from a meeting where I could stand up for my self. You knew the police would be on hand to control anything like that…To me you sounds even more like a coward.
Jennifer– your story about poor Molly touched me and I can’t stop thinking about the horror you and she went through. When I first read your story I cried my eyes out (very embarassing at work). I am an animal lover and have 4 dogs, 4 cats and a horse. I was at the meeting as well but didn’t stand and speak.
How can we keep the pressure on for a complete investigation and audit of their books? Should we contact the Attorney General at this point?
I can’t beleve Dawn Hawkins has the cojones to come on here and boo hoo about how her man is being done wrong. What a crock. Hey lady, nobody is listening to you. There are too many people that have come forward for all of this to be BS. I am p*ssed off and want some answers!
The original blog is still up–let’s keep it going.
I am concerned that the investigation through Chris Eastridge’s office (410-996-5335) is a CONFLICT of interest due to Keith Baynes. He says “we are liars”. This investigation needs to be done OUT OF CECIL. We need to take it to Harford County!
Keith Baynes needs to remember that he runs for Judge every election, don’t you all think we will remember this when we VOTE?????
CALL 410-996-5335 and get the investigation to Harford County, MD. We will NEVER get a FAIR investigation in this county!!
Jennifer,
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE file a complaint with the Maryland State Vet board, if you have not done so already.

The reality is, McDermot was the man in charge, his alligator tears does not change that. Your poor dog needlessly went through this suffering.
Let the board take it up and if McDermot is innocent, he’ll be cleared.

Just saw the 45 news piece, good to know we are on top of things!
Does anyone find it as curious as myself, that Gregory McDermott’s Sister (Amy) might be married to a “HAWKINS”, can anyone verify? please!!
Thanks
hi everyone stay strong..keep calling the commissioners, states attorney’s office and other officials that need the heat on i have been on the phone with many of them over the past week with no avail. very interesting that i took melanie’s little finding and did some digging of my own on the house vet Doc Mcdermott and his sister Amy’s marital status and she absolutely IS married to a HAWKINS!! he has been silent throughout this whole ordeal and now this makes a little more sense easy info to find out go to peoplefinders.com everyone KEEP DIGGING AND POST WHAT YOU FIND!!!
I didn’t see it! I fell asleep. Did they represent us well? yeah that’s intresting. The poop keeps in that litter box of a spca keeps getting deeper !
so anything new happening today??where next???im thereto help god bless missy
I also missed the Fox 45 news last night. I looked on their website but couldn’t locate the segment they did. Does anyone know where it can be located? I would really like to see what they said. Hopefully it wasn’t one sided like our dear Cecil County newspaper (The Cecil Whig), which is so one sided on almost any issue. If they don’t agree, it is not published. I have had my dealings with Terry Peddicord in the past when I wanted something written in the “Letter to the Editor.” He didn’t agree with it, even though there were known facts stated, so he didn’t publish it. However, when it comes to his opinion, it’s fine to publish. Mr. Peddicord needs to keeps his opinions to himself and publish the real news.
yes where can we find the fox 45 news coverage??i didnt see it either.can someone send a link to the story?waiting for some new news about the so called outside investigation.well it should of started a long time ago. they have had lots of time to hide and fix!!!
The Fox45 video can be seen on the right hand side of this page:
http://www.foxbaltimore.com/newsroom/features/crime_justice/index.shtml
I didn’t see it listed anywhere as a text story, just video.
Did I hear that correctly on the video? The Attorney General is refusing to get involved until the vet is investigated? We’re not talking ONLY about the vet – it appears he had an independent “business” in the facility. I’m assuming, I do not know, but I’m assuming he was granted use of the facility as compensation for his presence/services – fair enough if all is well.
He was NOT running the shelter. He was probably not even on the premises when some of the alleged activities were taking place.
It looks like more than Del. S. and Ms. Schwerzler need to start contacting the Attorney General. We all do. There is a major flaw in the rationale for their refusal. It stinks of “easy way out”, don’t you think?
yeah stuff doesnt add up. dr mcdermot said last week when I picked up mollys records that he was seperate from shelter, there for he doesn’t see a lot outside his office. And that the things he “may” have seen he addressed them with ms deeming.I don’t konow who’s telling the truth, I don’t trust any of them! Why should we? Those who keep quiet are just as guilty! He needs to speak up or he’s going down with the house of horrors as well!
Only an independent investigation will bring out the truth. I hate to think of a professional being painted with the same brush merely because of his association if he was, indeed, ignorant of the alleged abuse. It would be the same as blaming a volunteer. Multiple dogs in the same kennel with a bare floor is not good, but it’s not on the same level as some of the things we’ve heard.
oh i guess the attorney general thinks it isnt important to pursue.oh i pray everyday that this doesn’t get dropped.whats wrong with our justice system.they have much proof and still no investigation.so in the mean while more animals suffer.i think we need to protest again.more attention is needed to attorney general or whoever is supposed to inspect or investigate.they are dragging feet.ITS ALL EMPLOYEES AT THE CCSPCA NOT JUST THE VET.he was responsible for the animal care too.there isnt no other vet there.the director is responsible for all employees there.doesnt make sense the answers they are giving!!! so sad!!!
Does anyone know how many animals are there right now? Can we keep a log on them somehow?
to comment #24 – michelle. We have someone , were trying
mellissa- we are getting it posted( citizen protests) today. For Tommorow keep posted
Michelle,
You could go to the SPCA everyday and make a log. Im sure the have one. I dont think you will catch them doing anything out side the books now. I was at the SPCA on Fri and that place was a diff place. It was clean animals had water and such. For them to do something out side the lines of what is right now would shock me.
ok im waiting for more info.we need to go out and protest again.keep public seeing.i didn’t have any personal experiences, but i am an animal lover and i knew those things were happening in my gut and from other stories.i have been against the spca for years.i hope to help in anyway i can.missy levering
I also think we need to protest more. A lot of people are still unfamiliar with what is going on (I don’t know how), but by continually exposing this hopefully more people will come forward, especially ones that worked there no matter how long ago it was.
