As heard on WCBM: Please call to urge Alexis’ Law Passage of HB-60.
This is an easy bill that claifies that ANY judge can hear a motion to revoke the bond of someone who violates a protective order involving a victim of a sexual predator. The bill is named after a child (in Cecil County) who was sexually victimized by an adult and subsequently stalked by her victim in violation of the no cotact, protective order. The State’s Attorney interpreted the law to be that only the judge who issued the order could enforce the order. Alexis was so traumatized that the only escape she felt she had was to cut her wrists. Thankfully, she survived and is getting the help she needs. We need to make sure that no other children are victimized because of such loopholes.
Please urge each of the following legislators to vote this bill favorably out of Committee so that a full debate and vote may happen on the floor of the House of Delegates. Let them know that you will be watching and if this bill gets killed (voted down) in Committee you will remember it during election time. Also urge others to do the same!
