CALL TO ACTION: Delmarva Power wants to raise your rates!!
Tomorrow night, Thursday October 15, 2009 is a hearing by the Public Service Commission to discuss proposed electrical rate hikes. The hearing is 7:00 pm at Chesapeake Community College in Room HEC 110 Eastern Shore Higher Education Center.
What you need to know: The rate hike is a $14 million dollar increase, which works out to be a 2.6% increase in the average households bill.
In this time of economic downturn, I would think that a rate increase would be the last thing on the minds of a utility company. Seems to me there are enough people who are having a tough time paying their utility bill as it is, without raising the rates.
I am told the Public Service Commission (who is sponsoring these hearings) is expected to make a decision on this right before Thanksgiving. I realize they believe our attention may be directed elsewhere but it is important that we speak out against this proposed rate hike and let the PSC and all public officials know this is unacceptable.
We can not continue to be nickled and dimed to death; taxes at the local level, County taxes, State Taxes, Federal Taxes, increased costs for everything and decreased revenues are making it impossible for the middle class to make ends meet.
Tomorrow night, I hope you will join me in expressing your feelings about this poorly timed proposed hike!
